“Fear Of Missing Out”

FOMO is “the uneasy and sometimes all-consuming feeling that you’re missing out — that your peers are doing, in the know about, or in possession of more or something better than you.” – JWTIntelligence

Term coined by Patrick Mcginnis

Businesses.. Marketers in particular play with these “Scarcity Tactics” really well to induce that FOMO feeling.

Yes, I’m sometimes guilty of using this at work too.

“Sale ends today.. or in 2 hours”⁣

“Limited seats – Register now”⁣

“Only 2 stocks left”⁣

“Last chance to get 50%”⁣

“Don’t miss out!” ⁣

“Be like them..”

And then there’s the sweet counterpart..

— the “JOY of MISSING OUT” (JOMO)

Yes, you can CHOOSE to find JOY even when you feel you’re missing out.⁣
